Baby Steps To SEO
Generally when it comes to looking at SEO for a new client, I break it down into 5 main sections.
1 – What does the client have a website for?
Initially we need to establish the goals and the objectives for the website / companies online presence.
2 – Competitor analysis.
Who and what is their competition not only from the customers perspective, but from an online SEO perspective as these two can differ wildly as we will find out about in alot more detail.
3 – Applying SEO research to the customers website.
What condition is their current site in, in terms of existing SEO.
SEO is not a one off job and therefore it is important at this point to evaluate the workload involved and in many cases create a set of mini goals in an agreed timeline.
4 – Content Strategy.
Content is key for a website to compete successfully for the organic search terms and therefore a critical strategy that needs to be planned and then executed on an ongoing basis.
5 – Link Strategy.
Where will the links come from?, does the customer have a social strategy for twitter, facebook and the gazzillion of other social sites appearing all the time.
Should the customer buy links? cowork with other webmasters in a similar industry to create A-B, A-B-C, A-B-C-D links etc?
What crazy link ideas can be applied to his LOB? Is viral an option? We could go on and on.
I will list tools and links to website articles, videos etc to help develop each of the above into a useful process you will be able to implement for your customers yourself.
Conversion University – Google Analytics (GA)
I have finally got round to studying for the Google Analytics Individual Qualification (IQ) test as more and more clients I come into contact with are aware of the certification and appear to lean towards outsourcing their SEO contracts to people who have it.
What is Google Analytics?
Basically (http://www.google.com/analytics/) is a completely free service from Goolgle which gives you detailed reports about visitors on your website to help you improve their surfing experience and help you to better monetize your site.
If you do any sort of online marketing, this is an absolute must have.
If the study program is something you are not familiar with, you can find out all about it and even start the program yourself here,
